I took the plunge...

I did it. I really didn't want to. My whole life is going to change. What now? Will I ever have peace of mind again? You are asking yourselves, "what the heck is she talking about?" Okay, maybe it isn't that serious. But it is going to make my life alot harder. I converted Anthony's crib to a toddler bed!! I had to. That little stinker was using his little toes to climb up the side and practically hang upside down. I don't want him to get hurt. But now he is going to just walk right out of his room and I was not prepared for that yet. He is still little, only 17 months. No more putting him in the crib and shutting the door for a nap or at bedtime. He was usually awesome. I would plop him in there and see you later! Now he is realizing that there are other things going on when I put him down and he is not having it.

So, I made the crib into a toddler bed yesterday afternoon. I put him in there for a nap and he thought it was a joke. He would come walking out laughing. I would bring him back in and he would walk right back out. This went on all day. Until finally at 3pm did I decide to leave to go to the store, and wouldn't you know, that little devil fell asleep in the car before I even left my block. So back home we went. Bedtime went the same way. I had to sit on the chair in his room in order to watch him so did not get up. Eventually he fell asleep. And then this morning he came walking in my room at 6:30am. I guess things are not going to stay easy forever. Kids do have to get bigger and this is just the next phase in his life. The other thing is, now Christopher wants to sleep in there with him. The toddler bed it too little for 2 kids!

Note: Mario in now Darth Vader..LOL!

What a little stinker! It sounds like you're going to have a lot of "fun" for a while. ;-)

When I read stuff like this, I guess I consider myself super lucky. Rylie was fine in her crib and never even tried to climb out, although the sides are super high so she probably wouldn't have been able to anyway. A few months ago (I guess she was right at 2.5) when she was 100% potty trained at night, we decided to convert her crib to a toddler bed in case she needed to go potty. She goes to bed fine and never gets out, even in the morning...she still calls for us to come get her even though I told her she can get up by herself. What are the chances Bryce is going to be as good? ;-)

aww, big steps for you! I hope it gets easier, and that my little stinker doesn't start doing this in a couple of months. I think I'll tent him in if so:)

Girl! I don't know. I understand why you did that, but man, 17 months is early. He is too young to really understand danger, isn't he? Doesn't he have a better chance of hurting himself outside of his crib then from hanging within it. Our ped. said to keep kids in their cribs until they are 3, or can climb out on their own. Maybe that is what he is doing...is he swinging a leg over and climbing out? If not, then I would give him his crib back, if he is only hanging from the bars he might fall back inside the crib, but it's soft in there, so it might not feel good but it won't really hurt him and he'll learn, and he'll still get the sleep he needs. If he is climbing all the way out, then I think you made the right call.

My oldest slept in her crib until she was 3 years old. It was so deep that she could not climb out of it...it was heaven. Then, when she did sleep in a toddler bed, she was old enough to really understand that she needed to sleep in her bed.

What a big move for the little man! It will make life harder because now he can just get out when he wants to. But it is safer! BTW I love how your boys have so many costumes! I need to get my boys some!

Awww! What a cute bug! AuBrynne could climb herself out of her crib as soon as she could sit up at crawl fast -8months. I thought I was hallucinating! The bed was on the VERY bottom! Sheesh! We have always, since then, called her an escape artist.... Heck! She escaped the school the first day and apparently no kid has ever done that... And parents get trapped by it too...
Anyways, my girlfriend had gotten one of those crib tents for her boy and I got the "updated" one. It fits like a cube with a tent top... You zipper it up and its made of a super open mesh. Worked until she figured out that she could open it and could just NOT get back in. I eventually put in in the toddler bed and that worked well until the same problem arose....
So, do the boys sleep better together? It might help him figure out the "sleeping" routine... You know, like how doggie #2 gets house trained faster because doggie #1 "teaches" them?
