What if....

These last two weeks have had me thinking. We have had 2 funerals to go to...both of which were 31 year old guys. Guys either my hubby or I knew from high school. Both who were involved with drugs at some point. What if my kids get involved with drugs when they are older?? What would I do, other an be devastated?  I think we try as hard as we can to be good parents and sometimes our kids just don't turn out  the way we expect. It makes me want to keep them little forever. I swear I am just going to smother them with love and hope they make the right decisions. So, please, let's all give our kids.....

I was just talking about this with my boss yesterday. I hope more than anything that my kids grow up to be "good kids", but you just never know. Sometimes it has nothing to do with your parenting. They may get caught up in the wrong crowd, or act out for any number of reasons. But like you said, you just smother them with love and teach them about right and wrong, and hope they make the right decisions. Being a parent is hard work, isn't it?

I hope you guys have a great weekend!

Okay this is too strange...this is the second of my usual blogs to mention Hugs Not Drugs today!!!! Crazy, huh?!

Such a good thing to teach your kids about the horrible effects and consequences of drugs. The world we live in is so scary. Makes me worry so for GG's and all our kids' future!

On a happy note, have a great weekend, friend.

Oy! You know I struggle with the whole raising kids and drugs, with my sister and all... It's interesting, I was scared into not ever even trying a drug. My sister wasn't scared by the crazy videos in health class. But maybe they didn't show the videos by that point... But maybe she just had a different personality type. Or Maybe it was her life experiences were different. I am tending to think that each child has to to be smothered :) and dealt with depending on their personality and we have to know where they are and what they are doing all the time and not be afraid to have them mad at us if we say no they can't go there and hang out with "that" crowd... And also, scare them with the darn crazy scary circa 1960's-1970's stay away from drugs videos... You know, totally ambush them, lol!
I'm sorry to hear about your friends! They are our age! (anybody in their 30's...) I hope your huz doesn't take it too hard!

I am so sorry about your friends! I worry about the same things! You can only guide your children in the right direction and hope that you gave them the right foundation to make to right choices. It is so hard for me to think of my boys choosing to take a path that could harm them! It makes me want to keep them little forever too! I will be handing out the hugs like crazy too!

So sorry about the losses...much too young.

My approach will be sports, or dance, some sort of activity that my child can excel at and work hard it and that will take up a lot of her time. She won't have time to run with the wrong crowd and hopefully will develop a respect for her body...but then I think there is a lot of love and prayer involved too. Our best is all we can do.
