Happy Birthday to me…..

Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me!! Yes, folks, I am officially 35 today …or halfway to the big 4-0!! It feels like just yesterday I was a working woman with money in my pocket and not a care in the world.  Things today are much different but they are good. I feel like I am in a good place at this point in my life ; )

Now, on to share the highlights of my birthday date night in NYC. I will try to make this as simple as possible and only tell you the good stuff..LOL! The hubs and I do not get to stay out alone….literally once a year if we are lucky. So, this was our ‘once a year.’

We got to the NYC around 4pm on Saturday and checked in to the Best Western President’s Hotel in Times Square. The hotel had a funky feel and was based on all former President’s. The room was cute but small. It was clean and that is what was important. We really weren’t going to be in the room so I didn’t want to waste too much on just one night. I will tell you that the hubs has OCD and was making me crazy. Most of you probably don’t know that NYC has been having a MAJOR bed bug problem. The hubs was convinced we were going to be ‘catching’ them and bring them home!! Crazy!!

This was the view looking out the window. We were on the 13th floor. The hubs said he could literally see people across the street in the different apartments eating, watching tv, and in their beds. So, needless to say, our blinds remained closed. If we could see them, then they could see us : )

Leaving the hotel to go to dinner…

We ate at this little Italian place called ‘Scarlatto.’ It was nice. The food was good and it was reasonably priced. It was a little loud though. It amazes me how many restaurants are in NYC….literally one every 10 feet!

Waiting for our food…..

You might laugh here, but I thought the hubs and I might need some conversation starters. After so many years together and constantly talking about the kids, sometimes you lose touch. I found this ‘Date Night Cheat Sheet’ in a magazine, so I brought it with me and pulled it out during dinner. The hubs thought I was nuts…LOL! I will share some of the questions with you tomorrow.

After dinner we walked though Times Square to head over to the show. We stopped at a few little bars along the way for some cocktails.

We were planning on seeing Jersey Boys, but I thought seeing an Off-Broadway show might be better. These kind of shows are generally smaller and can have more audience participation. We opted to see ‘Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating, Mating and Marriage.’  It starred Eve Plumb (you know her…Jan from the Brady Bunch) and just one other character….her Mexican boy toy! It sounded funny and thought it would be a good ‘date night’ show. The best part was that I found a discount code for being a blogger and got a $50 discount!! See, blogging really is worth it : ) I will have a few funny things to share from the show with you in tomorrow’s post.

Waiting for the show to start…..

After the show we ventured to a place called ‘The View.’ It is on the 48th floor of a hotel and overlooks Times Square. It actually spins so you get the full experience of Times Square. It was really crowded and they were charging an extra $16 on top of whatever your bill was. So, I snapped this picture and we were out of there…LOL!

We walked past Radio City on the way to another bar….DSC03053

We found this lounge called ‘48.’ It was a good crowd and they played good music. But, we were probably the oldest ones in there. You know you are old when you are wearing long sleeves and all of the other girls are wearing sleeveless or tank tops, with open toed shoes and skirts with no stockings. Hello, I am way past trying to look cute. Warmth is more important people!!

We hung out at ‘48’ for awhile and just enjoyed the music and did some good people watching. I had had enough and we were back at the room by 1:30am. Sleep is also important when you only get one night a year without kids!

Here is the hubs Sunday morning as we were getting breakfast….he still looks a little sleepy : )

And last but not least, what trip to NYC would not be complete without a picture of Cookie Monster walking the streets!!

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Birthday Jennifer! It looks like you guys had a great night out in NYC!

That cheat sheet is a great idea. Brian and I went out for dinner one night with no kids, and we both ended up playing around on our phones until our dinner came. LOL (We even left comments for each other on Facebook.)

Too funny about the bed bug thing. You tell your husband that I would have been thinking the same thing! ;-)

And? I didn't realize you were an old fart like me. LOL We're the same age, well, for another two months. I totally hear you about feeling old when you see how the younger girls are dressed. haha

Have a great week!

Happy Birthday, Jenn! Wow, what a night! I can't wait to hear more about the show and the cheat sheet :) I am with your Hubs on checking for bed bugs...I always inspect the mattress in any hotel we stay in...I'm paranoid like that!

BTW, you were rockin' your long sleeves...those kids don't have anything on age & experience :)
